How to Use Your Own Domain for Your Link in Bio

4 min read2026-10-23

Why use your own domain

A link like yourname.com is easier to remember, says something about your brand rather than the tool you use, and keeps working if you ever change tools. Many link-in-bio tools only offer it on their most expensive plans.

On eltree it is part of Pro, £2.99 a month or £24.99 a year.

Main domain or subdomain?

Use your main domain (yourname.com) if it is free or you want your bio page to be your whole web presence. eltree also sets up www.yourname.com to redirect to it.

Use a subdomain (links.yourbrand.com) if your main domain already runs a website you want to keep. Your site stays exactly as it is and the subdomain shows your eltree page.

Step by step

In the eltree editor, go to Profile, find Your own domain, type the domain and press Connect. eltree adds it and shows the DNS records to create.

Log in to the company you bought the domain from (Namecheap, GoDaddy, Porkbun, Squarespace and so on), open its DNS settings and add the records exactly as shown. For a main domain that is an A record and a www CNAME; for a subdomain it is a single CNAME.

Back in eltree, press Check again. DNS changes usually take a few minutes, occasionally a few hours. When the status turns to Connected, your page is live on your domain with a secure https certificate.

What happens to your eltree.app link

It keeps working. Links you have already shared in bios, posts and QR codes still open your page, and search engines are told your domain is the main address.

Common problems

Still waiting after an hour? Check for typos in the record, and make sure there is not an older A or CNAME record for the same name left over from a previous site.

Told the domain is used by another website? It is already attached to a site on Vercel. Remove it there first, or use a subdomain instead.
